Using
Jalapenos
Jalapenos
are long” up to 10 cm” tapered chilies with a substantial fleshy capsule.
They may be eaten once full size but still green or left to ripen to red on the
plant. Jalapenos are hot but very flavorful and may be used raw in salads or
cooked and are often preserved in vinegars and oils. The heat is concentrated in
the white pithy inter walls and in the pips. These are usually discarded but may
be eaten.
Growing
Jalapenos
Jalapenos
are perennials which will survive for a few years if protected from frost. For
best crop production it is best to replant on an annual basis.
Jalapenos need a long warm period to grow well and do not like to get too
cold at night. Notwithstanding this the full SA sun tends to burn the plants
unless they are kept wet permanently. A better solution is to grow then in an
area where they get protection from the full midday sun.
The
soil should be fairly rich in compost but well drained with and only slightly
acidic.
Medicinal Uses of Jalapenos
Important! Do not use of herbs for medicinal purposes without consulting your medical doctor. Herbs have medicinal qualities and can react with other medication.
